Overview

Hong Kong Mahjong is a four-player draw-and-discard game in which players build a legal hand and score it in fan. This browser version may use its own minimum-fan and payout settings.

A common winning structure is four groups and a pair, with groups formed as chows, pungs or kongs. Players can draw from the wall or claim eligible discards, but opening the hand affects which scoring patterns remain available.

Hong Kong mahjong is a family of closely related rules rather than one universal scoring table. Minimum fan, limit hands, flowers and payment rules can vary, so the loaded game’s rule screen takes priority over a general guide.

How to Play

On each turn, draw a tile and discard one unless a claim changes the sequence. Organize the hand around four groups and a pair while tracking the minimum fan required by the room.

Claim chow only from the player on the left; pung and kong claims generally use matching tiles and can interrupt turn order. Decide whether exposing a group is worth losing concealed-hand options.

Declare a win only when the hand is structurally complete and meets the configured scoring minimum. Review flowers and payout rules before the first round.
