Play Xuan-Yuan Sword Online

Xuan-Yuan Sword is DOMO Studio and Softstar’s 1990 DOS role-playing game. It began the long-running historical-fantasy series built around Chinese mythology.

The first game follows a young swordsman through a world threatened by conflict between humans and monsters. Exploration, party development and turn-based encounters provide the foundation for the series’ later games.

This is the original DOS-era entry, not Xuan-Yuan Sword VII or one of the later English releases. The interface and available language depend on the loaded build, and the 1990 release should be expected to use Chinese text.

Review the DOS keyboard controls before starting. Explore towns and routes, speak with characters and check menus for party status, equipment and available commands.

Use turn-based battles to gain experience and strengthen the party. Monitor health and resources before travelling farther from safe areas.

Save regularly and keep more than one save point. Early DOS role-playing games provide fewer navigation prompts than modern entries, so record useful dialogue and unexplored routes.
